Winter Conditions and Snow Removal

Fellow Homeowner,

While we just experienced one of the warmest falls in history, winter has now swept in decisively and unapologetically.

RRVA saw its first significant snow accumulation back-to-back with a proper Catskills winter freeze. Predictably, this made for treacherous driving conditions, and our maintenance crew handled the task of clearing our roads with their customary professionalism: our roadways were driveable within 24 hours of the freeze.

It will be snowing again on Wednesday Dec 10, Sunday Dec 14, and again next week Dec 17, 18, 21, and then another deep freeze.  While the skiers and snowboarders among us are celebrating, we must all plan ahead and apply common sense:

  • If you live at RRVA full-time, make sure you have enough provisions to ride out the snow, including and the time it will take for our Maintenance Crew to clear our roads.
  • Never, ever go outside without being properly dressed for the conditions, even if it’s just for a minute.
  • If you plan to drive, please pause and make a common-sense determination:
    • Should you depart before the weather arrives?
    • Should you delay your drive?
    • Is your car properly winterized (snow tires, windshield washer fluid)?
    • Do you have the means to survive being stuck in the snow for an extended period of time?
  • Do you have important medication?

Please find attached the RRVA snow removal policy, and use it to help set your expectations for when our roads will be safe to navigate.

The winter solstice and first day of winter are now 10 days away, and they usher in one of the most beautiful times of the year.

Enjoy.

Sincerely,
